This is not the first tragic death of an Idol, as the K-Pop stars are called, so the South Korean National Assembly has decided to take action. With Internet bullying, with anonymous malicious comments being one of the leading causes of suicide in the country, including among the Idols, South Korea’s government is proposing a new law, dubbed the “Lei Sulli”, to counteract more aggressive these types of comments harmful to people’s mental health. A subcommittee will meet in December to review the details and clauses of the new law and will have representatives from the National Art and Culture Association, Celebrity Football Association, National Entertainment Workers Union, Korean Public Workers Union, as well as as people who have suffered or still suffer from these anonymous malicious comments.
